If you answered “yes” to any of these questions then the Olmsted Performing Arts Dance Company is the perfect place for you!

The OPA Dance Company is a new comprehensive dance program for serious dancers and for students looking to become more serious about their dancing. This company will work as a bridge to the industry and prepare OPA’s serious students for a career in the arts. The purpose of this company is to give students the highest quality education in multiple dance genres to create the most well-rounded dancer possible. This program will give our dancers an intimate class setting with personalized critiques and coaching to make sure everyone training in our company is becoming the best dancer they can be.

How does it work?

The OPA Dance Company will work as a team for all of their courses so Company Dancers will not only have the benefits of training, but will have the benefits of training with other students who share similar work ethics and goals. All dance company classes will ONLY be for company members (NO EXCEPTIONS) so the company will progress as a unit all focused on their goals. This will also allow our company dancers to build lifelong friendships with their teammates!

What is included in the OPA Dance Company?

The dance company schedule will include weekly classes in the following genres:

  • Ballet

Who is the Dance Company for?

The OPA dance company is for any student who wants to take their dance education to the next level. Dance Company student will have a lot of fun, but they will also be expected to work hard and be dedicated to the company to be eligible. The dance company is designed to benefit students looking to pursue their dance careers professionally, but it is not limited to students who want professional careers.

What ages are eligible for the Dance Company?

Any student age 6-21 may audition for the OPA Dance Company. We will have two distinct companies for the 2018-2019 season, the Intermediate Company and the Elite Company. When deciding which company to place a student on we will be looking at age, maturity, dance ability, and work ethic. Company selection and placement will be at the sole discretion of the dance company advisers.

How do I audition for the OPA Dance Company?

Dance Company auditions for the 2018-2019 company took place on Saturday, August 4, 2018. If you were unable to audition at that time but would like to be considered for the company, please contact Dance Company Director, Heather Dennen at hdennen@bw.edu, to arrange a private audition. Additional dancers will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Dancers hoping to make the company should come to auditions with hair slicked back from face and they should be wearing form-fitting, appropriate dance attire. Dancers must prepare a 60 second solo in their favorite dance style to present at auditions. Students must provide their own music for this solo and bring their music on a CD or an MP3 device. Dancers should be prepared to answer questions about themselves, their dance training, and future dance plans.
